Dr. Ken Torrens has been a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) since 1991. He is married to Adriana and they have been blessed with six children. He was born in New York City and was raised in a family that regularly utilized chiropractic and he has been receiving chiropractic adjustments since childhood. He was athletically inclined from early youth, engaging typical sports, but found a passion for wrestling in the third grade at age 9 and competed for twelve years. He also happened onto Hatha Yoga the following summer, and has incorporated the discipline into all of his exercise ever since. By middle school he began to recognize the shortfalls of wrestlers ‘sucking weight’ prior to competition and began studying all he could in the arena of body weight, composition and healthy weight loss. This led to a significant understanding of nutrition, metabolism and exercise physiology well ahead of the curve of his contemporaries. This foundation led to further study in the power and application of medicinal herbs. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hofstra University in 1985, double majoring in psychology and philosophy. He is most intrigued by the branches of success psychology and perennial philosophy. Following his graduation, he decided on a career in chiropractic and spent two years completing his pre-med studies. He also spent a year attending the prestigious Swedish Institute of Massage in New York City. He worked as a massage therapist throughout chiropractic school and for several years after receiving his doctor’s degree, and continues to incorporate muscle therapy in a unique way to standard chiropractic adjusting. In 1999 he began to see a new vision for the practice of chiropractic with the inclusion of active movement therapies. His work goes beyond the basic removal of nerve interference to also challenging the nerve system with renewed forms of expression. In this work he has seen patients with extraordinary structural and neurologic deficits make remarkable strides of improvement in balance, strength, coordination, stabilization of dizziness and headache symptoms, and the re-printing of motor pathways. In 2006 he began using Neuromechanical Innovations Impulse Adjusting Instrument side by side with hands on techniques. Currently, with the release of the revolutionary computer controlled auto sensor technology in the Impulse IQ Adjusting Instrument, he has seen enormous strides in case management. In 2009 he revamped the concept of small group Healthy Life Workshops with a curriculum based schedule to provide patients a pathway for learning and incorporating natural hygiene strategies. In 2010 he has teamed with Integrative Therapeutics, Inc. (ITI®), North America’s leading manufacturer and distributor of specialty dietary supplements for medical professionals and their patients. With ITI's support, he is able to offer his patients comprehensive programs to assist their need for periodic cleansing and detoxification, reduction of systemic inflammation, support of immune function, and re-energizing the endocrine and metabolic pathways. Despite all the successes in patient cases, Dr. Torrens continues to explore the horizons for complementary ideas and work that will benefit those who seek an improved life through his care and programs.
